Geoffrey Borg was born in Malta on July 22nd 1963. He graduated with first class honours in Business Management in 1986 from the University of Malta and a Masters in Business Administration from Warwick University in England in1995.

Geoffrey has worked in the United Kingdom, United States, Belgium, Russia, Egypt and Malta and was the General Manager in charge of Credit, Sales and Distribution for Malta's largest beverage producer, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc for eleven years. He is also Honorary President of the Malta Association of Credit Management where he was one of the founder members in 2001.

He has been Chief Executive Officer of Global Chess since 2007. Together with FIDE, Global Chess has helped in promoting chess worldwide and also organized 6 FIDE Grand prix tournaments as well as four FIDE Women Grand prix tournaments.

He is currently President of the Malta Chess Federation, FIDE Commercial Director and General Secretary of the Mediterranean Chess Association (MCA) and Small Nations Chess Association (SNACA) on an honorary basis. Geoffrey was elected a Vice President of FIDE in Torino 2006 but resigned one year after, to take up the duties of CEO with Global Chess on a full time basis. Together with Andorra Chess Federation he organized the 1st European Small Nations Team Championship in 2009 and together with a number of Mediterranean Federations, seven championships between 2003 and 2009.

He also has helped out in media functions during the World Championship candidates during the finals in Tripoli, Libya in 2004, the European Men & Women Championships in Silivri, Turkey in 2003 as well as all the Grand Prix tournaments between 2008 and 2010.

Geoffrey has represented Malta in a number of Olympiads, and his best result was a silver medal on Board 1 in the Salonika Olympiad in 1984. He holds the titles of FIDE master and FIDE Trainer. He has two IM norms to date, but is relatively inactive on the chess playing side, apart from playing blitz and bullet chess on ICC and Playchess.
